The suburbs of Paris and suburbs in general are often the birthplaces of street culture and fashion. Yet they are often looked down upon by the city people, especially in Paris, where the word banlieue (the Parisian word for suburbs) has taken on a negative meaning. It’s time to take back the meaning of the word and remind those who look down, that la banlieue has more to offer than they presume, and deserve a place in the beautiful city as much as they do.
